Dr. Jerusalem (Jay) Howard has over 25 years of experience in leadership development and HR management. As a certified executive coach, Jay partners with clients in the Director to C-Suite level in the private and federal sectors. His areas of expertise include managerial skills development, career advancement, navigating the political landscape, diversity & inclusion and strategic sourcing.
Jay has extensive coaching experience through several executive leadership development programs and 1:1 engagements. He has worked with Federal Senior Executive Service (SES) executives to interpret 360° assessments and create leadership development plans. He has also completed similar coaching engagements within the pharmaceutical, financial services and consulting industries, with clients that include Merrill Lynch and Andersen Consulting.
Business and Career Background
Jay’s business background includes extensive experience working in various HR roles in the pharmaceutical industry for Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and GlaxoSmithKline. Following his pharma experience, Jay assumed the role of HR Director for an academic institution, where he established the strategic vision and policies that guided the organization’s diversity programming. Under his direction, the organization was recognized as having one of the top 3 diversity programs in New Jersey. During this time, Jay was also responsible for the optimal resource allocation of $4.3 million dollars in revenue. Under his direction, his task force recommended over $1 million in cost savings.
Following this experience, Jay served as the VP of e-Learning at a major financial services firm. During this time, he led the design, development and implementation of an innovative web-based training program for financial services professionals. He also organized the diversity curriculum for 25,000 domestic and international employees, utilizing a $500,000 program budget.
Education and Certifications
Jay earned a Bachelor of Science in National Security from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Science in the Dynamics of Organizations from the University of Pennsylvania. His Ph.D. in Education was awarded from Syracuse University. He is certified in the Hogan Assessment System, DISC and MBTI, and he is a certified PCC coach through the International Coach Federation.
Jay has presented at national and regional conferences on the topics of instructional design, coaching and mentoring. He has over 15 years of higher education experience as an adjunct assistant professor and has been presented the US ICE (Innovate, Connect, Engage) Award for Innovative Efforts.
