Coaching and Consulting Experience

 

Dr. James Wood has 12 years of experience as an international leadership and performance consultant, coach, and keynote speaker.  He has worked with individuals, teams, and organizations across the world in a wide range of sectors that include healthcare, biotech/sciences, information technology, banking/finance, hospitality, food and beverage, manufacturing, state and local governments. James has led a wide range of teams including high tech software engineers, radiological health physicists and unionized technicians. James is also a co-author of the book Project Management for the Unofficial Project Manager. 

James has over twenty-five years of diverse leadership experience with project management, software development, engineering, operations and training organizations. As an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coach Federation, he utilizes brain-based, results-focused techniques to consult with and coach individuals and organizations to realize true personal and organizational greatness.

 

Business and Career Background

 

James began his career as a unionized technician for a United States government contractor in the nuclear sector.  He rapidly climbed the leadership ranks, from first-line supervisor to senior executive of a large, highly technical operations, engineering, and scientific organization.  James transitioned to a leadership role in the information technology sector.  This role allowed James to understand the theory and practice of realizing true leadership and performance greatness. This experience inspired James to transition from a software engineering leader to a full-time leadership and performance consultant and coach.

James currently works as an Adjunct Professor of Business at multiple universities.  He educates undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students on project management and leadership topics.  He often speaks on issues of leadership trust, project management, and leadership greatness.

 

Education and Certifications

 

James earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.  He holds a master’s degree in computer information systems and another in environmental policy and management.  He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration – management.  James is a graduate of the Foundations of NeuroLeadership through the NeuroLeadership Institute.  He is also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
